Final Major Project (FMP)

For the final project of the year, I was tasked with creating a series of images that told a story. The photographs could be of literally anything, as long as they made sense in a series. My peers wanted me to focus on nature, as it was something I hadn't looked into for a project for a while. As this project was given to us just as we were put in lockdown becuase of COVID-19, I had to really think about what I could use to tell a story. I decided to focus on feelings that myself and possibly many others were experiencing during the lockdown with so many restrictions and staring a the four walls. As for the nature element, I decided to focus on the row of trees outside my house. At the beginning of the series, the trees were just at the very start of their growth for the season, with very few leaves on the branches. As the series progresses, so does the growth of the trees. At the same time, I added different abstract effects to each week of photos, which become more and more obvious as that particular week went on. This represented the growth of nature without human intervention, whilst showing the deterioration of our mental health. The outcomes were going to be presented in a photobook one photo from each week was going to be presented as a large-scale, A2 prints.

  • Week one (day 1 to 7) - vibrancy decreasing slightly: happiness is dwindling, slowly fading away

  • Week two (day 8 to 14) - water marks on the paper: all we think about is the Coronavirus and it's clouding our thoughts

  • Week three (day 15 to 21) - scrunching up the paper: the crushing realisation that we're in this for a while

  • Week four (day 22 to 28) - coconut oil: the hope that this was going to be over quickly is fading away.
